RALPH MILEWSKI
I photograph what I encounter – not what I look for.
I observe, repeat, discard. I don’t smooth things out.
My work happens in motion – in movement, in stillness.
No plan. Only direction.
I’m drawn to people in space. To traces. To transitions.
I use what light is there and strip my tools to the minimum.
What’s left when everything unnecessary is gone – that’s what counts.
Images don’t have to teach.
They don’t have to explain.
If they provoke something, they’ve done enough.
The circumstances of my work are inseparable from the images.
They shape both the process and how the pictures are seen.
I trust the image, not the intention.
And I refuse the need to please.
